| Pairing information | Your link to your partner, the pair name, an invite code, and when the pair was created | When you create or join a pair |
| Wishlist | The things you’d like your partner to do, their Love Levels, and any custom items, categories, templates, and suggestions you create | Entered by you in the App |
| Activity records | “Done” reports, Thanks reactions, and the score calculated from them | Created when you or your partner use the App |
| Photos and custom stamps (Premium only) | Photos you attach to a “Done” report, and custom stamp images you send as Thanks reactions. Photos are stored in Firebase Storage and are optional | Chosen by you in the App |
| Premium subscription status | Whether your Premium subscription is active and when it ends. Payment is handled by Google Play; we do not receive your card or payment details | Verified with Google Play |
| Notification data | A push notification token (FCM), your notification preference (on/off), and your language setting | Generated by your device, or set by you in Settings. The token exists only while notifications are enabled |
The App does not collect your precise location, contacts, or health data. It receives photos only when you choose to attach them (Premium), and we do not receive your payment card details. It contains no analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
The Free version of the App shows ads served by Google AdMob; Premium subscribers do not see ads. See “Advertising (Free version only)” under “4. Who can see your data” below for what this involves.
As described below, the App uses Firebase, a service provided by Google LLC. In providing it, Google may technically process information that accompanies network requests, such as your IP address and device information.
3. How we use your data, and our legal bases
| Purpose | Legal basis (GDPR / UK GDPR) |
|---|---|
| Creating your account and signing you in | Performance of a contract (providing the App to you) |
| Pairing you with your partner and providing the Wishlist, Done (including photo attachments), Thanks (including custom stamps) and score features | Performance of a contract |
| Managing your Premium subscription (turning Premium features on and off) | Performance of a contract |
| Sending push notifications, including a notification when your partner does something for you and an occasional weekly reminder | Your consent. You can withdraw it at any time by turning notifications off in Settings or in your device settings |
| Operating the App, investigating problems, fixing bugs, and preventing misuse | Our legitimate interests in running a secure and reliable service |
| Showing you ads in the Free version of the App | Our legitimate interests in offering a free tier of the App; where required (EEA, UK, Switzerland), your consent to personalized ads |
| Responding to your inquiries | Performance of a contract, or our legitimate interests |
| Complying with legal obligations | Legal obligation |
We do not use your data for automated decision-making that has legal or similarly significant effects on you.
4. Who can see your data
- Your partner (the other member of your pair) can see your Wishlist items and Love Levels, the record of Done and Thanks activity between the two of you, your display name, and any photos or custom stamps you send to them.
- Us, the developer, can access data stored in our Firebase project as needed to operate, debug, and secure the App.
- Our service provider, Google LLC, processes data on our behalf as described below.
- Google AdMob, for Free version users only, receives device identifiers and similar technical data to serve ads, as described in “Advertising (Free version only)” below.
- No one else. Your data is not visible to other Unfairlove users outside your pair, and it is not sold to data brokers.
We do not sell your personal data. If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before showing you personalized ads (see “Advertising (Free version only)” below). If you are a California resident, or a resident of another U.S. state with similar rights, see “If you are in the United States” below for how to opt out of the sharing of your information for targeted advertising.
We may also disclose personal data where required by law, or where necessary to protect a person’s life, body, or property.
Advertising (Free version only)
The Free version of the App shows ads served by Google AdMob. Premium subscribers do not see ads. To serve ads, Google (and its advertising partners) may collect and use device identifiers (such as your Android advertising ID) and similar technical data, in accordance with Google’s Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, we ask for your consent to personalized ads the first time you use the Free version, through Google’s User Messaging Platform; you can change this choice at any time from Settings. Whether or not you consent, you will still see ads in the Free version — without personalization if you decline. You can also manage your ad personalization settings directly through your Google Ad Settings.
Service providers
We use the following services to run the App.
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Services | Google Sign-In, Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage for Firebase, Cloud Functions for Firebase, Firebase Cloud Messaging |
| Provider | Google LLC (United States) |
| What it does for us | Handles sign-in, stores the data listed in “2. What we collect” (including photos), and delivers notifications |
| Where data is stored and processed | The United States and other countries where Google LLC operates servers |
Google LLC handles data in accordance with Google’s Privacy Policy and Firebase’s Privacy and Security information. We select service providers carefully and manage them appropriately.
Premium subscriptions are purchased and billed through Google Play. We receive only whether your subscription is active and when it ends.
5. International transfers
We are based in Japan, and the App’s data is processed by Google LLC in the United States and other countries. If you are in the EU, EEA, or UK, this means your personal data is transferred outside your region. We rely on the safeguards that Google provides for these transfers, such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses, as described in Google’s documentation. Japan is also recognized by the European Commission as providing an adequate level of data protection.
6. How long we keep data, and deleting it
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. Photos attached to a “Done” report are deleted automatically 90 days after they are sent (the date is shown next to the photo in the App).
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete my account. This permanently removes:
- Your account profile and your sign-in (authentication) account, including the email address linked to it
- Your Wishlist items and their Love Levels
- Your custom stamps (including their image files) and custom templates
- Photos you attached to Done reports
- Your membership in your pair
This cannot be undone.
What remains after deletion
Records of Done and Thanks activity between you and your partner may remain in your former partner’s activity history, so that their own contribution record stays intact. After you delete your account, these records are no longer linked to any account or profile of yours.
If you can’t delete your data in the App, or want to request deletion in another way, please contact us using the form in “10. Contact us”.
7. Security
We take appropriate organizational, human, physical, and technical measures to protect your data against leakage, loss, and damage. Data is encrypted in transit, and access to it is restricted to you and your partner.
8. Your rights
You can change your display name and notification settings yourself in Settings. For anything else, contact us using the form in “10. Contact us”. We will verify your identity and respond within a reasonable time.
If you are in the EU, EEA, or UK
Under the GDPR and the UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- access your personal data and receive a copy of it (data portability)
- correct inaccurate data
- delete your data
- restrict our processing of it
- object to processing based on our legitimate interests
- withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting processing that took place before you withdrew it
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
If you are in the United States
We do not sell your personal data. If you are a California resident, or a resident of another U.S. state with similar privacy laws, you have the right to opt out of the sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising, and the right to know, delete, or correct your personal information, without discrimination for exercising these rights. You can exercise the opt-out from Settings, using the same consent tool offered to EEA/UK/Switzerland users (see “Advertising (Free version only)” above), or by contacting us using the form in “10. Contact us”.
If you are in Japan
We respond to requests for notification of purpose of use, disclosure, correction, addition, deletion, suspension of use, erasure, and suspension of provision to third parties, in accordance with Japan’s Act on the Protection of Personal Information.
9. Children, and changes to this policy
Children
Unfairlove is intended for adult couples, spouses, and housemates, and is not directed at children under 16.
